Kate Dewhurst is a professional private chef with over 35 years’ experience. In her career she has run a successful catering company, the kitchen of a high-profile country estate and several alpine chalets. Events have ranged from high-profile dinner parties to large weddings, cocktail parties and lunch receptions. That takes accurate time and staff management, and Kate always likes to keep a calm and happy kitchen.

She has cooked in many fishing and stalking lodges in Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and in holiday homes, villas and chalets abroad. Today, alongside small local functions and the occasional larger wedding, she runs Mulsford Cottage, a much-acclaimed bed and breakfast on the North Wales and Cheshire border.

2007 to present: Owner and chef, Mulsford Cottage

2003 to 2007: Chef, Baronscourt Estate, Omagh, Co. Tyrone

  • Ran the kitchen day to day, including inventory, purchasing and deliveries.
  • Cooked breakfasts, lunches and dinners, from elaborate banquets to small dinners for four to six VIPs.
  • Kept an open, collaborative kitchen team and high standards of food handling and hygiene.

1985 to 2000: Managing director and chef, KD Cuisine

KD Cuisine catered for weddings, cocktail parties and prestigious events in Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales.

1982 to 1985: Chef, Private Chalet Holidays, Méribel, France

  • Responsible for all catering and household management across three chalets.
  • Planned and cooked three-course dinners six nights a week through a four-month season.
  • Cooked in an open kitchen, looking after guests directly.

Education

BA (Hons) English Literature, Glyndŵr University, Wrexham (2002 to 2005), with an Academic Achievement Award.

Away from the kitchen

Family first, then travel, literature, film, theatre, art and oil painting. Kate loves dogs, the garden and beekeeping.
